What’s up everyone, I’m back with another match preview. Sorry about last week; it was my birthday and a hectic work week, so I didn’t have time to write a preview. But here we are with another San Diego FC match week, where they’re facing off against the Colorado Rapids.

San Diego FC currently sits in second place in the Western Conference, having managed to win four games, tie two and lose one. Colorado sits in seventh place with three wins, two ties and two losses.

In the short 7 weeks of the season, San Diego has proven itself capable of competing against all opponents. Last time they went on the road, they lost to Austin FC, where they had some key players out due to injury and international duty.

This time, San Diego goes to Colorado with a full roster. Hirving ‘Chucky’ Lozano is back from injury and was the man of the match last week against Seattle, where he scored his first club goal and provided an assist.

I believe San Diego will be a dominant force today against Colorado and will secure a third consecutive win. They are likely to win this match 3-1. It is hard to predict who will score since they have had 10 different goal scorers this season. This just speaks to the talent this roster has, as anyone can score at any given time.

Starting XI

San Diego FC’s Head Coach, Mikey Varas, is an unpredictable coach. He likes to mix things up and claims that when a player is at a “good to elite” level, they are untouchable. I believe he tends to rotate his backline more than any other position. I can see him possibly making some changes today, but as I mentioned, Varas is very unpredictable.

This is how I think Varas will set up for tonight.

Alejandro Villaseñor’s predicted starting XI for San Diego FC.

Some key players tonight are, of course, Hirving Lozano, who is the most important player for San Diego.

This is a big game for Onni Valakari; he needs a good performance tonight to prove to Varas that he is a must-start. With Milan Iloski joining the club on loan, this can add some pressure on Valakari since he has been playing in that role.

Chris McVey has been spectacular this season; however, with Andres Reyes back in the mix, McVey needs to maintain that star level to make himself irreplaceable.
